Timothy James Abromaitis has Lithuanian origins. His father played basketball in college and even was seen playing for Real and Varese.
Our newcomer played basketball in college, too, but at the same time he was studying really great. He was named a first team Academic All-American twice, and three times he was Big East Conference Scholar-athlete of the Year. Nobody has ever done it three times before.
He wasn’t chosen at the NBA draft back in 2012 and went overseas. He spent one season with ASVEL, Strasbourg, and Braunschweig. Last 4 seasons he played for Tenerife. Now he’s ready to change hot Canarian sand to pleasant coolness of Saint Petersburg.
General Director of BC Zenit Alexander Tcerkovny:
— Last season, Abromaitis showed that he is close to reaching the EuroLeague's players level. He is equally good at two positions, has a stable three point throw, plays well without a ball and has some other advantages that can allow Tim to become one of the key players of our team.
Forward of BC Zenit Tim Abromaitis:
— I’m very excited to join Zenit and grateful for the opportunity to represent such a great team. We will have a lot of challenges between the VTB and Euroleague but together with the coaches and teammates I believe we can accomplish really big things this year. I will be ready to fight every day and bring my best for the team and I’m looking forward to getting the season started!
Abromaitis is joining Zenit as Champions League winner (2017) and also a winner of FIBA International Cup back in 2017. Last Champions League season Abromaitis played in 19 games spending 24 minutes on the court. He was chosen to the All-Champions League First team scoring 11,3 points and making 5,4 rebounds on average. In ACB League our new player scored 11,9 points and made 3,9 rebounds in 27 minutes. He played in all 34 games.
Welcome to Zenit, Tim!
