Zenit start the new season away to Lokomotiv

The season is about to start and Zenit head south to take on Lokomotiv Kuban, a side who represented Russian in last season's Eurocup and finsihed in the final four of that competition.

Lokomotiv finsihed the season in fourth place, just behind Zenit and also qualifying for the Eurocup. Before the start of the season Loko have replaced some of their foreighn stars with homegrown Russian players. Dmitry Khvostov, Evgeny Baburin and Vladimir Ivlev have all joined the Krasnodar team and will strengthen the side.

Greek coach Bartsokasa left the side for Barcelona and has been replced by his countryman Fotis Katsikaris, a man experienced in Russian basketball and a former coach of the Greek national side. He will join up with a number of foreign starts already at the club inlcuding Mardy Collins, Kevin Jones, Kenny Gabriel and Ian Vuyukas. He'll be hoping to take the team higher than their fourth place finish last season.

The two games in Krasnodar will be an early test for Zenit and an indicator of how the new season will pan out for the blue-white-sky blues.
